--- What's New ---

As of 12/2/09

What's new is the MRB has a gig!!! It's been a while. Also, Jerome is back!!! We are looking forward to this Friday night. We'll be at the Verve from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM. It coincides with Terre Haute's holiday celebration called "Miracle on 7th Street". Rumor has it that we will have a guest artist sitting in with the MRB -- Mr. Will Foraker on keyboard and vocals. Could be a special night, especially if we are fortunate enough to see many of the old friends of the MRB. We sincerely hope to see you there.

As of 4/28/08

We want to apologize if anyone went to Mulligan's expecting to see the MRB on Friday, April 18th. Mulligan's has apparently made some changes in personnel doing the band bookings and the new person booked another band. Thanks to our good friend's Jan and Kyle for giving us a heads up on this. They happened to be at Mulligan's a couple of days before our gig. Noticing the sign advertising another band, they emailed us suggesting we check into this. By the time we were able to confirm that we would not be playing, it was too late to get out a notification. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment. It turns out they booked another band for May 9th as well. Hopefully we will be back there again over the summer.

We are working on bookings for the summer. We will update the Dates page as we confirm some dates. In the meantime, John's got a few jazz gigs some of you might be interested in. Check out our Dates page for details.

We hope you are enjoying the good weather we are finally experiencing. Lot's of yard work to catch up on!!!

Hope to see you soon. Peace.

As of 3/9/08

We've had a couple of fun gigs over the past few months, including another outing at Twiggy's the end of January and a first time outing at Mulligan's just this weekend. Check out our Gig Reviews page for a couple of brief write-ups.

John will be performing next Wednesday, March 19th, with the John Spicknall Trio at ISU's Center for the Performing Arts. The concert starts at 7:30 PM and is free and open to the public.

The MRB will be gigging next in April, back at Mulligan's. This is a nice venue -- good food and drink -- so come out and help us have some fun. See our Dates page for our latest bookings.

Spring is almost here. Enjoy it. Peace.

As of 12/9/07

We had a great first official gig as the new MRB at Twiggy's on Saturday, 12/1/07. Check out the Gig Reviews and Photos pages for a recap. We've also put some more recent photos of Mike, Doug, and John on the Band page.

We are working on some new material and bookings for 2008. Check back and view our Dates page for our latest bookings.

Feel free to sign our Guest Book, even if you have in the past. We enjoy hearing from you. Remember, there is a limit of 250 characters per message....but no limit on how many messages you can post. Because of some advertisers posting unwanted messages, all postings have to be approved; therefore, there will be a delay before you see your message on our website. Delay should be no longer than 24 hours.

Also, please join our mailing list including those of you who already belong but have had an email change. If you are not sure, no harm in "rejoining".

That's it for now. Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season and for a blessed 2008.

Peace.

As of 11/22/07

Happy Thanksgiving, 2007!! As you may have picked up from our Home page, Jerome has left the band. He will be missed; however, he will forever remain a member of the MRB.

After a 1 year break, the MRB is back and ready to do some playing with our new bass player, Doug Butrum. We think you will really enjoy his playing and singing and we look forward to introducing him to you on our next gig.

Speaking of next gigs, we will be at Twiggy's on Saturday, December 1, 2007 from 9:00 PM till midnight. Bring the family, enjoy some good food, and, hopefully, some great music.

The Home, Dates, Gig Reviews, Photos, Videos, Band, and Contacts pages have all been updated. Other updates to follow. We are in the process of booking more dates and hope to be out a couple of times per month shortly.

That's it for now. Hope to see you on Saturday, December 1st at Twiggy's. Be well.

Peace.

As of 12/16/06

Important notice - The New Year's Eve gig at Twiggy's has been canceled! We hope this doesn't cause anyone any inconvenience.

We wish all of you and your families a wonderful, happy, and safe holiday season. We look forward to seeing you in 2007.

Peace.

As of 10/27/06

Coming off of one fantastic gig at an outside party thrown by Susan and Eddy Adams a couple of weekends ago, the MRB will be out and about trying to create some excitement at two different venues this weekend.

On Friday night we will be performing at the Brewhause from 8:30 PM till 11:30 PM or so. Friday night is being billed as a Halloween bash so, if you are so inclined (totally optional), wear a costume. Mike Rowe and gang have started hosting live music on Friday nights. It's a great venue that comfortably holds a couple hundred people. We realize, despite the space, there still might be some pushing and shoving in order to squeeze everyone in; but, we promise to make it worth the effort!!!!!!

On Saturday night we will be performing at Ambrosini's from 9:00 PM till 1:00 AM. Our gigs at Ambrosini's are always an adventure and a lot of fun. If you prefer a little more of an "intimate" setting, this may be the place for you.

We'd love to see you out this weekend during our tour through Terre Haute! We promise to play some funky, groovin' music so come out and have some fun with us.

Peace.

As of 9/22/06

The Mike Rolle Band is playing this evening at the Street Fair from 4:00 PM till 8:00 PM. We will be followed by the MacDaddy band. Mike will be sitting in with the MacDaddys as Troy has taken a job as the HR Director for the Blue Man Group in Las Vegas and won't be able to make the gig.

John will be playing with Mark Cook and the Cook'n Blues Band again this weekend. First gig is tonight at the Elks in Sullivan from 9:00 PM till 12:00 AM and then they will be playing the Street Fair Saturday night from 8:30 PM till 12:00 AM

In other news, Dave DiCenso gave an outstanding performance at the Modern Drummer Festival in New Jersey last weekend. He received three enthusiastic standing ovations! There were many other great performers including Danny Seraphine (drummer from the old Chicago band) and Steve Smith. A DVD will be released and will include all of the great performances over the two-day event. We'll be watching for it!

Hope to see you all this weekend. Enjoy the Fall.

Peace

As of 7/21/06

The paper incorrectly shows us at both Ambrosini's and Twiggy's tonight. In as much as we might like to be able to play two places at once, this is not possible. The calendar on our website (see the Dates page) is correct. We are playing at Twiggy's Saturday night, 7/22/06 from 9:00 PM till 1:00 AM and we'll be at Ambrosini's Saturday night, 7/29/06 from 9:00 PM till 1:00 AM. Sorry for any confusion. Thanks.

As of 5/10/06

We want to apologize to anyone who went out to Twiggy's to hear the band last Saturday night. There was a mix up with calendars and it wasn't until Saturday afternoon that we confirmed we were not playing.

We will be at Ambrosini's this coming Saturday from 9:00 PM till 1:00 AM and hope to see you all there. We expect to have a good crowd. Rumor has it there will be a contingency from a class reunion coming over to extend their festivities. Should be a good time.

Our gig next week at TK's has been rescheduled to August 5, 2006. We will be at Twiggy's next Saturday instead. See our Dates page for all of our upcoming bookings.

We hope you are enjoying Spring and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Peace.

As of 3/17/06

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all! The Mike Rolle Band will be playing tomorrow night, Saturday, March 18th, at Twiggy's in Seelyville, which is right on Rte. 40 just past Rose Hulman on the right hand side (if you are heading East).

Next week we'll be at the Coffee Break on Friday night, March 24th. It will be the MRB and Friends show with special guests sitting in, including Pam and Jeff McNabb. John's Mom and Dad are coming into town for a visit and we'd like to put on a special show for them and to provide a nice vibe for a cool hang. So come on by and say hi.

We'll be back at Ambrosini's next Saturday night, March 25th. See our Dates page for details and all of our bookings.

John was doing some computer file cleanup and came across an email his brother Joseph sent to him. It was sent as a sharing of feelings and thoughts about the night the DiCenso family came to town and brother Dave sat in with the Mike Rolle Band at Ms. Xtreme's. It will be three years on March 28th since that special evening. For those of you who were there and want to re-visit some of those memories, John has added Joseph's moving comments to our Gig Reviews page. See entry 3/28/03. Joseph's words are just below Dave Hunt's heartfelt recap.

For those of you interested in hearing some jazz, John will be performing with the John Spicknall Trio next Thursday, March 23rd, at ISU's Center for the Performing Arts. This is part of ISU's Faculty Jazz Concert Series. Admission is free and all are welcome. The Performance Center is located on 7th street, left hand side heading North from Wabash.

That's it for now. We hope you are all well and are getting ready for Spring. We hope to see you soon.

Peace.

As of 3/6/06

The band has been gigging and having fun playing some new venues with some new musician friends and some new music. Please see our Gig Reviews page, Photos page, and Video page for a recap of some of our more recent gigs including the Coffee Break on 2/17/06, Twiggy's on 2/18/06, and Ambrosini's on 2/25/06.

John also provides a brief recap of his experience participating in ISU's Annual Jazz Festival on 3/18/06, which included performing in the evening concert with the great jazz trumpet player, Bobby Shew.

We've got a pretty full calendar in March. The MRB will be returning to Twiggy's on Saturday, March 18th. We'll then be performing at the Coffee Break on Friday, March 24th. We are billing this as "MRB and Friends" and are hoping we'll have some of our musician friends sit in with the band. John's Mom and Dad will be visiting and we'd like to put on a special show that evening. Jeff and Pam will be performing and we hope to have others as well. We'll be back at Ambrosini's on Saturday, March 25th. See our Dates page for all of our upcoming bookings.

For those of you interested in the kinds of music we play, we've added a Covered Artists page located on the left side menu bar directly under The Band menu item.

That's it for now. We hope you are all well.

Peace.

As of 1/20/06

Well MRB fans, the Big Kahuna was on the prowl tonight. After deciding we were still a band that wants to play, Mike went on a gig booking spree and rumor has it he's not done yet. Check out our Dates page. At a minimum we will be at Ambrosini's once a month February through July. We are trying to book some other gigs around town and maybe some places a little outside of town. Check back for updates.

We look forward to seeing you at our next gig. Please come out February 25 at Ambrosini's to support the kick-off to MRB's 2006 gigging season!

Peace.

As of 12/18/05

There is a new gig review and photos from our last outing at Ambrosini's. It was a wild one! See our Gig Reviews and Photos pages.

For you Dave DiCenso fans, check out the January 2006 issue of Modern Drummer. In the article entitled "The Future of Drumming", two very prominent drummers in the world today, Steve Smith and Virgil Donati, mention Dave DiCenso as someone who is taking drumming to the next level. See pages 61 and 67. Also, at the bottom of page 160, Critique Recordings, Dave is mentioned for his work on John Petrucci's (Dream Theater) new CD, "Suspended Animation".

In the same issue of MD, on page 182, Who's Playing What, Dick DiCenso is mentioned (with photo) as a user of Vater products. Way to go Dave and Dick. As many of you know, Dick DiCenso sold Dick DiCenso's Drum Shop earlier this year. The new owners are doing a terrific job and Dick is enjoying teaching more than ever. Check out the new drum shop website and Dick's new website on our Links page.

That's it for now. We are off the rest of the year but will be rehearsing, and possibly recording, in early 2006. We thank you all for supporting the Mike Rolle Band and for supporting live music in the Terre Haute area.

Best wishes to you and your loved ones for a safe and happy holiday.

Peace.

As of 11/24/05

Good news. We are on for Saturday December 3, 2005 at Ambrosini's! We'll be playing from 9:30 PM till 1:30 AM though we might try and start on the early side...9:00 PMish if everyone's ready to go. Last time we had a fantastic turnout and suspect even a better turnout this time. Pass the word and bring a friend. The house will be a rockin'!!!!

If you are looking for something during the week, John will be playing with the John Spicknall Quintet on Wednesday night at the Coffee Grounds and again on Thursday night at the Coffee Break with the John Spicknall Trio. If you like Jazz you might enjoy one or both of these nights. Check out our Dates and Venues pages for details.

We hope to see you next Saturday night, December 3rd at Ambrosini's.

Enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Peace.

As of 11/23/05

We had a fantastic turnout at our first gig at Ambrosini's earlier this month. See our Gig Reviews and Photos pages for a brief recap and a few images from the evening. We look forward to playing there again soon.

Unfortunately, our gig at the Dawg House on Saturday night, December 3rd, has been canceled. We are trying to see if Steve at Ambrosini's would be interested in booking us that night. Please check back as we will update our Dates page as soon as we find out. We'll also send a notification via our mailing list. Speaking of which, if you aren't on our mailing list (and would like to be) or your email address needs to be updated, please let us know by clicking on Mailing List on the right-hand side of your screen.

We hope to see you soon. In the meantime, please know that we wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Peace

A great turnout at last night's gig. See our Gig Reviews page for a brief recap. Also, some photos from our last two gigs at Mogger's are available. See our Gig Reviews and Photos pages.

We will be at Ambrosini's in 3 weeks, Saturday, 11/5/05 from 9:30 PM till 1:30 AM. We'd love to make a great impression at our first outing for us at this venue. We hope to see you there.

Check back often for the latest on the MRB.

We had a great gig at the Coffee Break this past Saturday evening. See our Gig Reviews page for a brief recap.

We will be at Mogger's Pub this Saturday evening, October 15. Weather permitting, we will be outside in the Beer Garden; otherwise, we'll probably be upstairs above the old Tap Room. We hope to see you all there.

Please mark your calendars!! We are confirmed to play Ambrosini's on Saturday, November 5 from 9:30 PM till 1:30 AM. This will be our first time at this Venue so we sure would appreciate having a great turn-out. See our Venues page for Ambrosini's address, phone number, and website. See our Dates page for all of our upcoming bookings.

That's it for now. We look forward to seeing you soon. Enjoy the Fall.

Peace.

Hi All. It's been about a month since providing an update on what's going on with the MRB. We've been playing a bit and we've also been rehearsing a bit and look forward to performing a few new tunes at our next couple of gigs. We are playing this Saturday night, October 8, at the Coffee Break from 7:00 PM till 9:00 PM. Please come by if you're looking for a quieter, smoke-free, alcohol-free, great coffee, drinks, and sandwiches, and, of course, some fun music kind of place. We will next be playing at Mogger's Pub next Saturday night, October 15. Weather permitting, we will be outside in the beer garden for the last time this year. This has been a great venue for us in 2005, with near-capacity-audiences. We thank you all very much for this. Please see our Dates page for all of our latest bookings.

Please see our Gig Reviews page for a brief recap of our "Exploring the Blues" fundraiser concert at the Coffee Break. Yes, we have photos, thanks to our good friend Larry Williams.

John has been busy working with John Spicknall, with gigs at DePauw University, the Coffee Break, and ISU's Center for Performing Arts. The gig at ISU featured Terre Haute's own Greg Smith. Greg studied with John Spicknall, graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, and is now a working musician in Los Angeles. Boy can this man play piano, not to mention his writing and arranging skills. We've added a link to our Links page for those of you who might want to find out more about this very fine musician.

The MRB is investigating playing at some new venues, locally and regionally. What do MRB fans think about us playing at Ambrosini's? We think it might be a fun, local venue for us; but, we'd like to know what YOU think. If you want us to play there, let Ambrosini's know. You can email them by visiting their website at www.ambrosinis.com

That's it for now. We look forward to seeing you all very soon....maybe even tomorrow night or next Saturday night!!! Enjoy the Fall.

Peace.

As of 9/5/05

Well, Dave Hunt, as the rumors indicated, did show up to our gig Saturday night, helping us have yet another successful outing at Mogger's in the Beer Garden. See our Gig Reviews page for details.

This coming week is a busy one, musically. If you are interested in some straight-ahead jazz, John will be performing with the John Spicknall Trio, Thursday, September 8 at DePauw University. They will be in the Duck, which is the school's pub located in the Walden Inn on campus. See our Dates and Venue page for more information.

Friday, September 9, the MRB will be the "house band" for an "Exploring the Blues" night at the Coffee Break from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The event will be hosted by Indiana State University's guitar professor, Dr. Brent McPike. Throughout the evening, Brent will be sharing information about the songs being performed and how they became a part of our blues music history. Several local musicians and singers will be featured throughout the 2 hour show. The proceeds from this event will be donated to the WILL (Wabash Independent Living and Learning) center. Donations are $3.00. This will be a great way to kick off the weekend's Blues Festival.

We look forward to seeing you soon and remember to check back often for the latest on the MRB.

Peace.

As of 9/2/05

We are 2 for 2 at Mogger's in the Beer Garden. We had another almost capacity crowd and good, albeit a bit warm, weather on Saturday night, August 2. Steve Ellis did a great job sitting in with us on percussion, adding to our sound and fun. See our Gig Reviews page for a brief write-up.

Tomorrow night, Saturday, September 3, we'll be back once again at Mogger's in the Beer Garden. For those of you staying in town for Labor Day weekend, we've got just the place for some good time, good music, and good friends. Rumor has it Dave Hunt, from the great MacDaddy band, will be joining us on percussion and vocals. So come on out and hang with us and enjoy one of the few remaining weekends of the Summer of 2005.

If you are interested in some straight-ahead jazz, John will be performing with the John Spicknall Trio, Thursday, September 8 at DePauw University. They will be in the Duck, which is the school's pub located in the Walden Inn on campus. See our Dates and Venue page for more information.

We had another fun gig at the Coffee Break on Saturday night August 6. See our Gig Reviews Page for a recap.

We will be playing tomorrow night, August 20, at Mogger's, outside in the Beer Garden, weather permitting. Rumor has it we will have a percussion player joining us on stage. Our last gig here was to a full house. So come on by and enjoy what could be a beautiful Summer night among good people and good music.

We've had a date change on our calendar. We will be back at Mogger's in the Beer Garden on Saturday night, September 3rd, not the 17th. This is Labor Day weekend so if you're not going anywhere, please make plans to join us for one of the last nights of Summer.

Oh, by the way, for you drummers or drummer fans, the Dave Weckl Band is coming to the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis, Monday night, October 10th for two shows. There is a group of us going. If you are interested in joining in, contact John. This should be a great take and something that shouldn't be missed if you want to see one of the best drummers on the planet.

We hope to see you soon.

Peace.

As of 7/31/05

We had a very fun gig on Saturday, July 23rd at Mogger's out in the Beer Garden. We had a full house! We thought for a moment we must be doing a wedding; but, no, it was just a great crowd. A mix of loyal MRB fans and some new faces. See our Gig Reviews page for a recap of the night.

We'll be at the Coffee Break this coming Saturday, August 6th from 7:00 PM till 9:00 PM and then back at Mogger's out in the Beer Garden on Saturday, August 20th from 8:00 PM till 11:00 PM. Is this right? Two MRB gigs in one month!!!! See our Dates page for all of our current bookings.

That's it for now. We hope you can make it out to our upcoming shows. Peace.

As of 7/21/05

The MRB is playing at Mogger's outside in the Beer Garden, weather permitting. Should be a hot one....weather and musically!! We expect to have some guest players sit in and a good crowd is anticipated so please come early and stay late. We start at 8:00 PM and play till 11:00 PM or so.

Jerome and John sat in (as did several other musicians) with Marshall Rictor's EZ Street Band that featured Marcos Cavalcante. What a treat. Mike also sat in for a few tunes and sounded great, as usual. See Jerome's review on our Gig Reviews page. Thanks to Marshall for putting such a fun night together.

John will be playing with the John Spicknall Trio next Thursday, July 28, at the Coffee Break. See our Dates page for all upcoming gigs.

We hope to see you this Saturday night. We are looking forward to playing out again. It's been a while since the MRB was kickin' it.

Peace.

As of 7/10/05

Hi All! We hope you are having a great Summer. We could use a little rain here in Indiana; however, it's hard to complain about the beautiful sunny weather we've been experiencing.

The band is still kicking around. We had a great rehearsal a couple of weeks back and we've decided to try and get out and play a little more than we have been....I know, that's not saying much. Well, check out our Dates page. We are booked at least one night per month July through October. We are hoping to book a couple of more dates during this time. Our next gig will be at Mogger's Pub on July 23, outside in the Beer Garden, weather permitting (otherwise we'll be inside). We'd love to see you there. We'll then be back at the Coffee Break on Saturday, August 6.

In addition to the Dates page, our Gig Reviews, Photos, Videos, and Other Events pages have all been updated with content from our last gig at the Coffee Break as well as a road trip we took to see Dave DiCenso at Drum Daze in Columbus, OH. Check out Dave demonstrating Pearl's new Reference Series drums!

A couple of other musical notes: Jerome and John will be playing at Mogger's this Friday, July 15th with Marshall Rictor's Easy Street Band. There will be a special guest artist, Marcos Cavalcante. Marcos recently performed at the Coffee Break doing both a guitar workshop in the afternoon and a concert in the evening. He's an outstanding player with an impressive resume so it should be an exciting show. Click here for more on Marcos. On Thursday evening, July 28th, John will be performing with the John Spicknall Trio at the Coffee Break from 7:00 PM till 9:00 PM

That's it for now. We hope to see you all soon. Peace. The MRB.

As of 4/21/05

Yes, the MRB is still alive! We've been rehearsing and we've played once publicly and once privately thus far in 2005 (See Gig Reviews page). We are still rehearsing periodically. Jerome's busy with work and studying, Mike's got a new day gig that has kept him busy, and John's also been busy with work and studying. So, fitting in music has been a challenge. We've got one new date and hope to get a couple more on our calendar soon. John's been doing some gigs with a couple of other bands and we'll try and post his future dates on our Dates page as well.

Mike and John, along with our good friends Kevin Beel and Larry Williams, went to see Dave DiCenso perform in Columbus, Ohio at a drum festival called Drum Daze. Dave kicked off the show that included in the line-up Billy Kilson, Giovanni Hidalgo, Simon Phillips, and, the one and only, Steve Gadd. It was a treat. John's working on a brief summary including photos and possibly a short video. We'll post it out on our Other Events page.

Shoes and Strings now has a website. Check it out. We've added a link to their site on our Links page.

That's it for now. We hope to see you soon. Enjoy the Spring. Peace. Mike, Jerome, and John.

As of 12/4/04

Well it doesn't look like the MRB will be playing any more gigs in 2004. We might squeeze in an evening at the Coffee Break; however, probably not till January. We are rehearsing and looking forward to getting out and playing in 2005 and sharing some fun time with all of you.

Check out our Other Events page for a recap of a recent road trip Mike and John took to go see Steve Smith and Vital Information in Dayton, Ohio.

John will be playing with Dr. John Spicknall's Jazz Trio at the Coffee Break on Thursday, December 9th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. If you like jazz, you'll enjoy this show. So come on out and support live music in our local community.

The Shoes and Strings band is playing at the American Legion in Brazil New Year's Eve. There is a group of MRB friends and fans (who are also very much Shoes and Strings fans) going. If you are interested, get over to the American Legion in Brazil and make reservations ASAP (you need to pay in advance). It should be a great time and a fun way to bring in the New Year.

That's it for now. Thanks for all of your wonderful support of the band this past year. Best wishes to you and your loved ones for a safe and happy holiday season. It is our sincere hope that we are all able to find a sense of peace and appreciation during this often hectic time of year and during this troubled time in our world.

Take good care. The MRB.

As of 10/19/04

We had a nice gig at the Coffee Break earlier this month. Check out our Gig Reviews page for details, photos, and video. The video, as with all of the video on this website thus far, was taken with a digital camera made for taking pictures. The quality is not very good; however, it gives you a little taste of the MRB playing some jazz. We hope you like it.

We've been a little lax in booking some outings and don't have anything on our calendar for the rest of this year. We expect that to change soon so keep an eye on our Dates page. We will send out a reminder email for upcoming gigs, so, if you aren't already on our mailing list, please be sure to join it by clicking on Mailing list to the right ------>>.

John will be playing at ISU's Center for Performing and Fine Arts on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 7:30 PM in the Recital Hall. John will be sitting in on drums with a Student Jazz Combo. The concert is part of ISU's Student Concert Series, which is free and open to the public.

Jess Tardy has a new release out that has Dave DiCenso on drums. Check out the link to Jess Tardy's website off of our Links page. We think you'll enjoy the CD.

The band has officially made Dave Hunt an honorary member, as is now listed on The Band page. Thanks Dave for giving the band a lift, a spark, an added dimension, a boost on the fun factor scale! We really enjoy having you play with us and we look forward to the next time you join us on stage.

That's it for now. Hope to see you soon. Peace.

As of 9/26/04

We had another especially fun gig Friday as we opened up Bleemel Days/Brewfest to an enthusiastic crowd outside at the corner of 9th and Poplar. See the Gig Reviews page for all the details.

We will be back at the Coffee Break this coming Saturday, October 2. We really enjoyed our first gig there and we are looking forward to this return engagement. We'll be playing from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. If you are unfamiliar with the Coffee House or want to call and make reservations, see the Venues page for the address and phone number. Come check it out. This is a great new venue in Terre Haute.

We'll be at Stu's 19th Hole on Saturday, October 9. Check back often and refer to our Dates page for our latest bookings. Also, if you are not already on our mailing list, please sign up. We generally send a reminder email regarding our gigs for the coming weekend.

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather. Peace.

As of 9/7/04

We had an especially fun gig this past Friday night. We kicked off the Labor Day weekend by celebrating our good friend Larry Williams' 50th birthday. See the Gig Reviews page for a brief write-up and some photos.

Mike and John did another gig on Saturday night at Wally's in Rossville, IL. They filled in for the lead singer and drummer of a rockin' band out of Illinois called the Jam Band. Check these guys out if you get a chance.

Jerome will be filling in with a local band at the Blue's Festival this coming weekend. He goes on in the early afternoon.

We will next be playing September 24 at the Bleemel Fest. We'll send out a reminder email that week. This is always a good take and we are looking forward to playing it again this year. More to come on this event in the coming weeks. As always, check out the Dates page for our latest bookings.

Peace.

We've been a relatively busy band of late. We had two gigs on Friday night, July 30 at two new venues. We then played at Deming Park on Tuesday evening, August 3, for National Night Out. Check out our Gig Reviews page for commentary and photos.

We are off for the rest of this month but will be back at it in September with two great gigs. We'll be at the Dawg House on Friday, September 3rd kicking off the Labor Day weekend and celebrating our good friend Larry Williams' 50th birthday. As a special enticement to come out and enjoy the MRB, our drummer, John, promises to buy a beer for anyone who has turned, or will be turning, 50 in 2004. A photo I.D. is required!!! On Friday, September 24, we'll be kicking off the Bleemel Fest at an outdoor concert in front of the Tap Room. Be sure to check out our Dates page for all of our latest bookings.

We hope to see you soon and best wishes for a safe and happy kick off to another school year.

Peace.

Wow, how is everyone? It's been a while since we've updated our website and we apologize for this. We took the months of April and May off from gigging and just rehearsed. We've learned some new tunes including one difficult fusion tune called Captain Fingers by Lee Ritenour. We had a very busy June including a whirlwind road trip to Boston which included a 3+ hour stop at the Zildjian Cymbal Company! We returned from Boston to play 4 gigs in 2 weekends, a heavy load for 3 old farts!

Friday night July 30, we have a "doubleheader". We'll be at the Coffee Break from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and then we'll be moving right next door to WIMS playing from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Should be a great night in two new venues for us, each venue being very different. Check out our Venues page for address and phone numbers for these new establishments.

Earlier this month, John and Kelly along with some great friends of the MRB (Larry, Jan, Kyle, and Carlene) went to see Eric Clapton. What a fantastic show! Mr. Clapton was impressive to say the least and the band was smoking! Mr. Steve Gadd himself was on drums. What a treat. Thanks Larry!

Back in May, the MRB received an award for being selected as Wabash Valley's 2004 Favorite Band. Thanks to all of you who voted.

You can find details and photos of our June gigs on our Gig Reviews page. Details and photos on our road trip to Boston and our Favorite Band award can be found on our Other Events page. We've added some links to our Links page. Check out Jess Tardy. We think you'll love what you hear. Her next CD will have none other than Mr. Dave DiCenso on drums!

We hope to see you all this Friday, July 30. Till then, be well and have a safe and happy rest of the Summer. Peace.

As of 4/4/04

See the Gig Reviews page for a brief recap of our last gig. We'll be visiting some past venues over the next few months including The Dawg House, Stu's 19th Hole, and The Tap Room. Check out our Dates page for details.

The MRB is learning some new tunes and are open for suggestions on other songs or artists. So if you have any input to provide, your feedback is most welcome. Follow the links from our Home page to send us an email.

See you soon. Peace.

As of 2/20/2004

Boy it was good to play Friday night. Check out the Gig Reviews page and Photos page for a recap. Also, check out the Other Events page. We posted some non-gig pictures of some good friends of the MRB out on Valentine's Day night listening and dancing to Shoes & Strings at Stu's 19th Hole.

We are working on booking some dates in March so please check back when you get a chance. We'll also put out a short email to our mailing list letting you know where and when our next outing will be. We look forward to seeing you soon. Peace.

As of 2/13/2004

Honestly, the MRB has not retired. I know that for some of you that may take some convincing; however, we are still excited about playing and are very much looking forward to our next gig. In fact, we actually have one on the books for which to look forward. We are gigging upstairs at the Tap Room on Friday night, February 20, 2004. We are playing a private party from 8:30pm to 10:00pm. At 10:00pm the room will be opened up to the public. We'll play till around 12:30am. We hope to see you there. It should be a lot of fun, a full room, lots of dancing and laughing, and some good music that we haven't had a chance to play in a while. Come on by!

As of 2/2/2004

Well, it's been a little while since we've put anything new out on our site and we apologize for the delay and lack of communication. We've all been busy settling into the new year, new job (John), and recovering a bit from an interesting 2003. For those of you who have been wondering, the MRB is alive and well and we are very much looking forward to getting out and playing soon. Check our Dates page often as we expect to be playing out locally this month.

In the meantime, check out the Gig Reviews and Photos pages regarding our New Year's Eve gig at The Quail Creek Country Club. Also, we recommend checking out a couple of great local bands. The MacDaddy's, who have a new look and sound for 2004, will be playing at the Moose Lodge this month (see www.themacdaddys.com for details) and Shoes and Strings are always a good take (email Lance Gordon at ldgordon@aol.com to get on their mailing list).

Peace and we look forward to seeing you soon.

We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.

We had a couple of gigs over the past 2 weeks. We played last Tuesday night at Mogger's Pub and the Saturday night before that at Stu's 19th Hole. Check out the Gig Reviews page for recap and photos.

As of right now, we have nothing booked until New Year's Eve. We are in the process of finding out if this party is open to the public. Check back later this week as we will provide full details if it is.

Mike and John are busy booking the band for January, February, and March. We expect to be playing some new venues. Check back often to see our latest bookings.

Lastly, there is a rumor floating around that The MRB will soon be a 4 piece band! More details to follow as we see if there is any truth to this story.

Peace and best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season.

As of 11/5/2003

We had two gigs last week. It was good to play again after being off for a month. Check out the Gig Reviews and Photos pages for recaps and pictures. Thank you, our faithful family and friends, for supporting the band.

We will next be at Stu's 19th Hole on Saturday, November 22nd. We hope to see you there. Check out the Dates page for an up-to-date listing of all of our bookings. Mike is working on some more dates for this year and early next so be sure to check back often.

We added an Other Events page to be used as a sort of catch all for MRB and music related events that aren't MRB gig specific. Examples include the recent drum clinic given by Dave DiCenso. Nothing new was added, just some reorganizing of existing content.

That's it for now. We hope all is well with each of you. Peace.

As of 9/30/2003 The Clinic Team - Standing (l to r): David Hunt, Rob Steidel, Larry Williams, John DiCenso, and Steve Ellis; Seated: Dave DiCenso

What a memorable weekend! The main event was the Dave DiCenso Drum Clinic that was held on Saturday. Pictured to the right is the team that brought the Dave DiCenso Drum Clinic to Terre Haute. Standing (l to r): David Hunt, Rob Steidel, Larry Williams, John DiCenso, and Steve Ellis. Seated is Dave DiCenso. Click DRUM CLINIC for a complete recap of a fantastic event!

We also had two great gigs....Friday night at The Brewhause and Saturday night at The Dawg House. Check out the Gig Reviews for brief write-ups.

As some of you know, John went to a percussion workshop (or "drum camp" as some of his friends and family like to say) this past Summer. For those of you who might be interested in attending this workshop in the future or are just curious about what the workshop is all about, click WORKSHOP to view feedback John provided to the Director and Assistand Director of the 2003 KoSA International Percussion Festival and Workshops. It gives you a little understanding about this week-long experience; however, don't hesitate to contact John directly if you'd like more details.

The MRB is off for a month. Our next outing will be on October 28th at Mogger's Pub. Check out our Dates page for all of our latest bookings.

Have a good month of October. Be happy and safe. Peace.

As of 9/25/2003

Hi All! We trust you are enjoying the beautiful end of Summer/ beginning of Fall weather. It's been absolutely great, don't you think?

We had a fun outing at Ms. Xtreme's last Saturday night. Check out Gig Reviews and Photos pages for a brief review and a few pictures.

We have a busy weekend coming up. We'll be at the Bleemel Fest tomorrow afternoon, Friday, 9/26/03 from 4:00pm to 7:30pm. We'll be kicking off what should be an outstanding Bleemel Festival. Check out the local paper for all the details or visit www.terrehautebrewery.com. We'll be outside on the main stage located in front of the Tap Room. Cook N' Blues will be up after us from 8:00pm to midnight. If you are still in the listening and dancing mood, the MacDaddys are playing at The Dawg House and they typically go till 2:00am or later. Should be a great night of music and fun. Come by early and bring the family.

Saturday night we will be at The Dawg House. We'll be starting around 10:30pm, immediately following the Comedy Show. John's brother Dave will be visiting and will be sitting in with the MRB. Should be a special night. For those of you who caught Dave with the MRB back in March, you know what we mean. For those of you who didn't, you will not want to miss it this time.

For those who want to see more of Dave, he will be giving a drum clinic on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00pm at The Dawg House. All ages are welcome. Tickets are $10.00. Based on sales to date, it's going to be a full house. Doors open at 12:30pm and will close promptly at 1:00pm. Don't miss this exciting event. For complete details, click here => DAVE DICENSO DRUM CLINIC. If you still have questions, you can contact The Dawg House (see Venues page) directly or email the MRB (see Contact Us page). If you decide to email the MRB, please direct your email to John.

Be sure to check out our Dates page for all of our latest bookings. We hope to see you all this weekend. Peace.

We had a very fun gig on Wednesday, September 10th at Mogger's Pub. See Gig Reviews page for comments. Sorry no photos. This past Saturday we played a wedding out in Casey, IL at Richards' Farm House. We had a fun time. Congratulations to Mike and Jamie Richards and best wishes from the MRB for a long and happy life together....and a wonderful honeymoon!! Much thanks to Kevin Beel for running sound, helping with equipment, and sitting in to teach John how to play some of that island music mon!

We'll be at Ms. Xtreme's this Saturday night. It looks like it's going to be quite a party. Penny and Sean have been promoting the night heavily. It's a back to school bash!! We will be the second of two bands and expect to start around 10:00pm. This should be a great time, so come out and join us. Please click here for more information.

Don't forget about Dave DiCenso's Drum Clinic. If you are interested in attending, be sure to contact John for tickets. See the link above for details.

We hope you are all well. Peace.

As of 8/29/2003

We had a couple of fun gigs in the last 7 days....The Dawg House and Mogger's Pub. Check out the Gig Reviews page for brief reviews and photos.

We have a full calendar in September. We are back at Mogger's on September 10th and we'll be at Ms. Xtreme's for a back to school party on September 20th. We haven't been to Ms. Xtreme's in a while and we look forward to returning. We'll be opening up for Mark Cook and the Cook'n Blues band on September 26th at the Bleemel Fest and we'll be ending the month with a show at The Dawg House on Saturday, Septebmer 27th. Be sure to check out our Dates page for all of our latest bookings.

The details on Dave DiCenso's Drum Clinic have now been finalized. As we have been communicating, the event will take place on Saturday, September 27th at 1:00pm at The Dawg House. Due to some wonderful support from Dave's sponsors, we will be able to bring you this event at a price lower than we originally thought. Tickets will only be $10.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door. The event is open to all ages. Seating is limited so we encourage you to get your tickets early. For complete details, click here => DAVE DICENSO DRUM CLINIC. If you still have questions, you can contact The Dawg House (see Venues page) directly or email the MRB (see Contact Us page). If you decide to email the MRB, please direct your email to John.

That's it for now. We hope you all are well and getting back into the swing of things as Summer winds down, the kids are back in school, and the beautiful Fall season approaches.

Peace.

As of 8/19/03

We will be back at The Dawg House this Saturday night. We expect to have another fantastic time at this great venue. If you have not yet been to The Dawg House, you need to check it out. It's one of the finest establishments in Terre Haute featuring a great atmosphere for music and dancing and letting your hair down....or in our drummer's case, growing a little hair. We'll be starting around 9:30pm and we'll play as late as you want us to....."one more, one more!!!"

Details are being firmed up regarding Dave DiCenso's clinic next month. Flyers and tickets should be finished up this week. The clinic will be on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at The Dawg House beginning at 1:00pm. This will be something you won't want to miss, whether you are a drummer or not. More details to follow including where you can get your tickets.

Be sure and check out the Dates page for our latest bookings and stop by our Guest Book and let us know how we are doing ... music, website, etc. or just to say hello. We've brought our Gig Reviews and Photos pages up to date from our last three outings....The Dawg House, Mogger's, and Mogger's. As always, if you see a photo of yourself that you would prefer not to be on our website, just please email us and we will remove it immediately.

Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm for the band. It is much appreciated. We look forward to seeing you Saturday night.

Peace.

As of 7/23/03

We will be at The Dawg House this Friday night. For those of you who have not yet been there, it is located at the corner of 9th and Oak street. It is the old Cactus Jack. For those of you who have been in the old Cactus Jack, I assure you, you will not recognize the place. Pat Sparks and Rob Steidel have completely done the place over and they did a fantastic job. Clean, good food and drink, great sound system, stage, and dance floor. We are expecting a good crowd so come on out and bring a friend. We'd love to see you.

Over the past couple of weeks we played outside at The Tap Room (in the Beer Garden), at Mogger's Pub, and Margaritaville/ Jimmy Buffett Night at the Elks in Brazil. Check out our Gig Reviews page for brief write-ups on these outings. We apologize for not having any photos. We've been a little lazy on the picture taking front. However, we have been working on some new tunes and hope to play a few of them this Friday night at The Dawg House.

We have confirmed Dave DiCenso for Saturday, September 27th. He will be doing a clinic at The Dawg House at 1:00pm. This is something you won't want to miss, especially all of you drummers. We expect to have tickets on sale mid-August. We think the price will be around $15 per person; however, a firm price has not been set as we are hoping to get some sponsorship money to help with costs. More information to come. By the way, there is about a half-page article on Dave in the latest issue of Modern Drummer. Be sure to check it out if you get a chance.

That's it for now. Hope you all are having a wonderful Summer. Peace.

As of 7/10/03

We will be at the Tap Room this Saturday night. We'll be outside in the "Beer Garden", weather permitting. It should be a fun time. We are expecting a good crowd and hopefully a couple of guest musicians to sit in with the band. We hope to see you there.

We've added a few more pictures from our last gig at the Tap Room back on May 17th. We just recently received them so we scanned them in and you can view them via the Gig Reviews page or the Photos page.

We are working on getting Dave DiCenso back out to Terre Haute to sit in with the band and do a drum clinic. We are tentatively shooting for the weekend of September 26, 27, and 28, 2003. If this is something you would be interested in attending (there will be an admission charge to cover costs), please email the band and let us know. We are working out the details and much more information will follow. To keep up on Dave, who's touring all over the world --- Japan, Germany, UK, US, etc., go to our Links page where you will find a link to his website.

That's it for now. Peace.

As of 6/22/03

We played our first gig at Stu's 19th Hole last night. See our Gig Reviews page for a brief write-up. Our next time out will be July 12th at The Tap Room. We'll probably be playing outside in the Beer Garden, weather permitting. Check our Dates page for all of our latest bookings.

Peace.

As of 6/9/03

We played our first gig at The Dawg House Saturday night. We had a lot of fun and had a surprise guest artist sit in with the band! See our Gig Reviews page for a brief write-up and photos. We are off this weekend but will be playing at Stu's 19th Hole, another new venue for The MRB, on June 21st. We hope to see you there.

If you haven't visited the MRB site in a while, be sure to check out our What's New, Gig Reviews, Photos, and Videos pages for an update on all of our gigs. We've also added a few new links to our Links page. If you have any suggestions for the website or want to be on our mailing list or would like to sign our guest book, please see our Mailing List, Contact Us, Sign Guestbook, and View Guestbook pages located on the right side of our website. And, as always, if you find a photo of yourself on the site that you would, for whatever reason, prefer not be there, please email us and we will remove it immediately.

We look forward to seeing you soon. Peace.

As of 5/30/03

We've had some changes in our bookings. WE ARE PLAYING AT THE DAWG HOUSE NEXT SATURDADY NIGHT, JUNE 7TH. This will be our first time at this great venue and we would very much appreciate as much support as we can get. We'd love to see you there. We start around 9:30pm. We will not be at the Tap Room or Mogger's in June due to some unavoidable conflicts. Check out our Dates page for an up-to-date listing of all of our bookings.

We played Mogger's Pub this past Tuesday. Had a good time as usual and had a good crowd as well. Thanks to all who came out and had some fun with us. Check out our Gig Reviews and Photos page for a brief write-up and pictures.

Peace.

As of 5/26/03

We've done a couple of gigs since our last update to the web. Cookin' Blues stopped by for a surprise visit at our last gig at the Tap Room. The MRB will be opening for Cookin' Blues at the Bleemel Festival in September. We also did another gig at Ms. Xtremes. Check out our Gig Reviews page for brief write-ups and photos. If you haven't been to the website in a while, we've added a page just of videos as well as a few more links to our Links page. We'll be playing tomorrow night, Tuesday 5/27, at Mogger's Pub. It's our last gig for a couple of weeks. We'd love to see you. We are next at the Tap Room on June 13th; however, we might have a conflict. We'll let you know as soon as we confirm one way or the other. After that we are at a new place for us, Stu's 19th hole, on Saturday June 21st. Check out our Dates page for all of our current bookings.

Peace.

As of 5/4/03

The MRB did its first wedding last night at Stables Steak House. It was a very nice celebration and we had a lot of fun playing a bunch of tunes out of the Real Book. We would like to extend our best wishes to Dan and Jennifer Ballentine for a long and happy life together. We finished up about 9:00pm or so and headed over to the Tap Room/ Beer Garden to catch the band,Shoe Strings. We are glad we did. This band was cool and we look forward to hearing them again. Be sure to check them out if you get a chance. We only stayed for a couple of songs because we wanted to join in the fun at Pat Sparks' and Rob Steidel's Grand Opening of their new place, the Dawg House. This is the old Cactus Jack; but, we assure you, you won't recognize the place. They did a fantastic job remodeling and it is sure to become a premier club in Terre Haute.

The MacDaddys were playing and the place was packed. The band was really cooking last night. You couldn't help but get up and dance and move to their groove. They are an exceptional band with a great mix of talent, musicianship, showmanship, energy, and a have-fun-party attitude. They have a gift of making everyone feel special and welcome and important to a fun night which all adds up to packed clubs, smiling faces, and fun, fun, fun!!

Dave, Rob, Bill, Troy, and Mark invited the MRB up to play a few tunes on one of their breaks. We had a ball performing to a packed house through a super sound system. We would like to sincerely thank the MacDaddys for allowing us to play and for providing exposure for the MRB that would not otherwise be easy to come by. We are very grateful and we very much look forward to playing at the Dawg House in the near future.

As of 5/1/03

We've had some exciting things happen over the last month; however, it's safe to say the highlight was our gig at Ms. Xtreme's on March 28th. It was a very special evening where the MRB motto of Good Friends, Good Music, and Good Fun really rang true. It was great to have so much family at our gig. Mike's family, who are such great supporters of the band, were there as, seemingly, always. We also had a visit from John's Mom, Dad, brothers Joseph and David, and sister-in-law Laurie, all of whom traveled in from the Boston area. Some great friends of the band were also there including musician friends and friends from work. It all added to a great vibe helping to make what turned out to be a night not soon to be forgotten. The Mike Rolle Band got a boost from a sound system that our good friend Dave Hunt had sounding great and an incredible, unbelievable, and amazing burst of energy, talent, musicality, and mastery from Dave DiCenso, who sat in on drums during the second set and again to close out the night. Dave put on a show and for those of us who witnessed it, we are sure grateful we didn't miss it. For those who couldn't make it, check out the Gig Reviews page for March 28, 2003 at Ms. Xtreme's for photos and video clips. We'd like to extend a special thanks to Dave Hunt for running sound and for his review of the evening and to Joseph DiCenso who took many of the pictures and video as well as enthusiastically contributing his energy and love.

Another highlight was our gig at Mogger's on April 16th. Again, we had family in town. Kelly's sister Patti was visiting with her 3 youngest daughters, Jill, Erin, and Emily, and they all, including Kelly, Drew, and Deven, came out to Mogger's Pub for dinner and to listen to the band. We thank them for their enthusiasm, especially Kelly and Patti, who whooped it up a bit. Kelly had been couped up at home due to her recovery from recent knee surgery so she let loose, to the sometimes embarrassment of Drew and Deven. Their enthusiasm and support was much appreciated by the band, however. It would have been a pretty slow night without them. Special thanks to Emily for her Gig Review, to Deven for his photography (Deven took the vast majority of the pictures), and to Drew for telling a joke.

We hope you all got our message about having to cancel our gig at Stu's 19th hole last Saturday night. Mike was able to coordinate another band to do the gig and we rescheduled to play there in June. We are next playing Saturday night May 17 at the Tap Room. We hope to see you all there. I believe we will continue to play upstairs where there is more room for a larger listening and dancing audience.

Hope you got to check out the great music around town last weekend. MacDaddys played at Terre Haute's newest club, The Dawg House, on Friday night. It's a great new place geared for music, sports, eating, and drinking. It's located just a few doors down from the Brewhause. We hope the MRB will be playing there soon. Mike and John caught the show and, as always, the MacDaddys' Dave, Rob, Bill, Troy, and Mark put on a great one. Cookin' Blues was all around this weekend with Mark in town visiting from Atlanta. John caught 2 plus sets on Sunday night at Ambrosini's and Mark, Adam, and Brad packed the place and brought the house down with a great closing set.

On April 22, 2003, Hiromi Uehara released her debut CD, "Another Mind". You must check this out! She is something else and she's got some fantastic musicians on this CD including: my favorite drummer, Dave DiCenso; Mitch Cohn on bass; and guest musicians Anthony Jackson on bass; Jim Odgren on alto saxophone; and Dave Fiuczynski on guitar. The CD was produced by Richard Evans and Ahmad Jamal and it's recorded live directly to Sonoma DSD with no overdub. To find out more about Hiromi or to buy this CD, click here =>.

We've updated the website with our latest bookings (Dates page) as well as the Gig Reviews and Friends pages with pictures, video, and comments regarding our most recent gigs. If you have trouble with the video files, please send us an email. Some of the files are Windows Movie Maker (wmv) files. The quality is not as good as the mpg files. John's working on improving them and will post them as they become available. By the way, we try and take a lot of pictures of the people who show up at our gigs. We review them before posting them on the web and we do not post anything we don't think you would like; however, that's very subjective. If you see a picture of yourself on our website that you would prefer not be there, please email us and we will remove it immediately.

Peace.
